What a long day…

We started off with a little “de-briefing” from Laila; it was really just a quiz with gameshow remotes..

We got back to the room and I immediately began working on the package again, fixing a mistake I’d made yesterday, about leaving out the “one world” in Arabic. Afterwards, I got the trasnparencies from the printer, and took them downstairs to the Buisness Center so I could get better printouts. Of course, with my luck, as usual, I found out that the Arabic instructions on the back of the yellow packages had moved too far up and the white was disappearing into the white illustration. However, I left it as is, and continued on to cut them out, score, and cut out holes, and pulled the lace through. All of my groupmates helped, which was really nice, and I felt like we’d all pulled through. I was getting really stressed too, because everyone else was done with their part, and even though I’d spent hours at the computer working on the package, it wasn’t getting done. But I think with the help of the teachers, we were all able to make it work, even if we did end up using tape to keep the packages closed.

The actual show was very nervewracking, especially because we didn’t know how it was going to work. The room that we were in was a very strangely layouted room, with lots of easels, and all sorts of other artist materials, including one empty hallway-like area surrounded by purple chairs. At the end of the ‘runway’ was a stand with a projector, so we decided to use that area, since we wanted to show Huda’s video. After a rather long issue with the computers and it fitting into the projector cord plus the video not opening. Eventually, we got it to work, and we were able to present our project. I’m very proud with everyone in the group, especially since we were able to produce so many things: 2 graphic posters, 3 screenprinted posters, the laces (about 20), 6 packages and a movie about our process. We did a lot in such a short amount of time, and the experience has definitely been one to cherish. I’ve learned a lot, although maybe not in ways that I expected, but it’s always good to learn just a little more. We had our differences, but all-in-all I think we all pulled together to come up with a great project (Yes. It’s corny. But it’s true. )

The MICA students invited us to a lunch, and after lunch they bought for us different kinds of gifts and we were so happy. They were so cool and friendly, and we did not know how could we thank them for what they do! . But in the end we felt that this course was so helpful course that gave us a chance to meet this kind of people. WE ARE TOGETHER

mostly we spent out time in the studio (print making lab) talking amongst each other as a group and deciding upon things to be done. what i really liked about out group was that each girl had a clear idea of what is she suppose to do to bring the project together, so we divided the tasks amongst the girls, each upon her strength.

most of our work is almost done on time.. we still have just few things to add to the posters and the package, bits and pieces of a finale touch up to complete the project.

as a group we had our diffuclt moments, when not everyone is agreeing on something, or liking the idea,, but i think over all everyone finished their tasks on time and did a great job as a team.

tomorrow is the last day, the finale day, the day of the critique. i hope our group does well *hugss to all my group girlies  ^_^ i love you guys! *

this course has passed so very qucikly compared to the other normal courses we take at ZU during the semester, but so much has been done and achieved through this short perioed of time.

finally, i would like to *Group hug you all* for allowing me to have such a wonderful experience and for making new friends, too.

Princess Khawla…

Even more working on the package…. Buthaina accidentally printed out mock-ups on transparent paper, but it looked awesome, so we’re doing it. Josh also suggested having a package of each color, so we’re going to have 6 packages: 3 transparent, 3 solid, 2 of each color: red, yellow and blue. We tried various adhesives, I think the Spray Mount should work…?

Everyone worked on her group and discussed what things that are still missing and if there are any changes. I complete working on the poster (adding and deleting). In addition, I was working on making of a Movie Maker that will show all of our process for this final project.

We are all helping in each other and we are comfortable to work together

Was a day for cleaning the screen-print and if someone wants to print should start do that before the final critic. After that, everyone goes to her group to complete working on the final.

After a long discussion, we came out of the final name for our product which is “UNITED, اتحاد”and we realized that it covers all what we want to deliver for people which is the community. At the end every one of us and we are ready for adding the missing things such as the poster, the logo, the package.

Even more working on the final project; our homework was to see if we could combine the English and Arabic word for “unite”, which I could not figure out, but me and Buthaina worked it out once back in class. I was quite proud of us that we were actually able to get it to work. I kept continuing on working on the package design, and began thinking about adding images of ways to wear the lace on the back. I also thought about writing a short paragraph that expains the point of the product, which is our homework.

Still working on our final project. We have 3 days to finish before we print, and 5 days till the project is due. We’ve finally come up with a slogan and a name. Bernard came over to us, and wrote the one word that we’d all been thinking in our head “unite”. I don’t know why none of us wrote it down. It was in so many of the other words… “Unite” is now the name of our product, and our slogan is “one world” so it becomes “Unite one world”. Josh also suggested trying to see if we could combine the English and Arabic word for “unite”, via how it’s done in the “tashkeel” logo. http://www.fikradesigns.com/salem/images/portfolioimages/tashkeel.jpg. I worked all day on changing the colors of the holes and the string, while Buthaina and I kept trying to work on the color scheme. We have a logo but there are 4 circles and we only had 3 colors: blue, red and gold, so we kept trying to think of a 4th color, as well as the specific colors of the other 3. After hours of constant changing, Josh came to meet with our group and suggested pulling the individual pieces of lace through the holes. We also talked about font, and discussed using Edwardian Script ITC, but have decided on Futura instead.
